Children enjoying reading books together

You and your child have picked up a book that seems interesting, but as you are reading it together, it feels like the story is taking forever to get to the good parts, or maybe you’re just not feeling it because of distractions or stress. No worries! Here are some tips to keep you hooked on that book:

1. Bye-bye, Distractions!

You know how phones and gadgets can steal your attention, right? Well, set some downtime on your phone to control when you get notifications. That way, you can focus on your book without interruptions.

2. Find Your Reading Time

Reading before bedtime can help your child to wind down and get ready for sleep. But if you’re reading for school or a personal goal, try waking up a bit earlier each morning to sneak in some reading time. Just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference!

3. Make Reading Fun

Sometimes, books can be tricky to understand at first. Try reading a page and then summarising it in your head or jotting down notes. It’ll help you remember the important stuff and make reading more enjoyable.

4. Break it Down

Long chapters can feel overwhelming, right? Break them into smaller chunks and set goals for yourself. Like, “I’ll read until the end of this section.” It makes reading feel less like a chore and more like a challenge.

5. Keep Your Book Handy

Keep your book where you can easily grab it, like on your bedside table or in your bag. That way, whenever you have a free moment, you can dive back into the story instead of getting bored.

6. Take a Breather

Before you start reading, take a minute to clear your mind. It’s like hitting the reset button on your brain! Remind yourself why you’re reading and how awesome it is to learn new things.

7. Time for Breaks

If you’re reading for a while, don’t forget to take breaks. Your brain needs time to chill and process what you’ve been reading.

So, next time you’re feeling bored while reading, give these tips a try! And if you need some new books to check out, here are some places to find them:
